Charger Repair for MacBook

A thin charging cable for the MacBook is sometimes a significant disadvantage of these computers. Made so as not to spoil the elegance of the entire product, the wire in some (crooked) hands is quickly wiped off and stops charging the laptop. The problem is far from deadly; it is easy to fix the charge if you have an idea of how this is done.

You can repair your MacBook charger on your own.

All parts of the charger require careful handling both during use and during disassembly. Therefore, when the wire from the MacBook is overwritten, many simply carry it in for repair or buy a new one. But do not think that you can not cope with this problem without the help of others. If you happen to repair your grandmother's old iron, you already have a good idea about how to repair electrical appliances. Charging here is hardly different.

Cable repair

Required Tools

Before disassembling the power supply, prepare the necessary tools:

  • soldering iron and all its accessories;
  • pliers;
  • cutting pliers;
  • pliers;
  • pincers for stripping;
  • lighter;
  • insulating tape.

This set is quite enough to fix a broken wire.

Charge analysis

  1. Disconnect from the power supply that part of the cable that connects to your MacBook.
  2. We place the pliers or the pliers in the formed cavity between the two parts of the device.

  3. Gently pull the handles of the tool to separate the plastic case of the power supply. The seam is firmly glued, so you have to make a little effort.

  4. With pliers we bite off part of the wire to the place where the insulation is broken. It is we who then join the block .

  5. We cut or bite off a round plastic gasket, but so that the majority of the cable remains on the power supply unit.

  6. Disconnect the cable into two contacts, expose the ends.

Cable connection

Now you need to reconnect the two parts of the wire with a soldering iron.

  1. We remove the outer insulation from a small part of the cable (4–5 cm).
  2. With an even smaller part (1–2 cm), we also remove the inner insulation.
  3. Lighter burn one contact of the wire to distinguish it from another, but so as not to burn the insulation.
  4. Solder the ends of the contacts to each other.

  5. Apply electrical tape. It is necessary that the wire contacts do not touch each other, otherwise, as you know, a short circuit will occur.
  6. Top we wrap with tape or isolate the cable externally in any other way to provide additional protection.

  7. Putting back the power supply.

This is the whole charge repair for MacBook, when you just rubbed the cable. If you did everything correctly, the computer will be charged without any problems. And also pay attention: whether the reconnected part of the wire does not get very hot. The temperature may be higher than on the power supply, but not so much that the insulation melts - then it is better to really give the memory for repair or buy a new one. Moreover, it will not be so expensive to cost, if you take, for example, a used cable.

Other damage

A similar way to fix the charging will not work if the cable connecting to the laptop is damaged. It is thinner than the cord from the plug, and any defect in the work can seriously affect the computer battery. Therefore, this part is easier to simply replace.

IMPORTANT. The same can be said about the power supply itself. This white box has a very complex structure: Apple engineers even included various chips and microcircuits responsible for the power supply to the battery. It is unlikely that you will be able to repair this device, but make it worse - completely!

Charging is complete, but the computer does not charge

In the end, it is not always the memory that is always to blame. There are problems in MacBook itself. SMC systems that are responsible for the color of the indicator light can be buggy. In this case, the power goes, but the device does not inform about it.

It is easy to fix.

  1. We connect the adapter.
  2. Turn off the laptop.
  3. Hold down the Shift, Control and Option buttons and simultaneously press the power button, hold for a few seconds.

This action will reset the controller. After that, the light bulbs, if everything is OK with the charger, will light up.
