Xiaomi or iPhone: what is better and why

A few years ago it was quite difficult to imagine that a comparison of such a giant as “iPhone” with a certain Chinese brand called “Xiaomi” would be perceived without some kind of indulgent smile, and with maximum seriousness and participation. "Xiaomi", like the company "Huawei", has already successfully captured the user market of electronic gadgets due to the most optimal price / quality ratio, a diverse line, as well as an affordable price of components, rather than offered by Apple and Samsung. And within the framework of this article, one should compare two “incomparable” brands “Xiaomi” and “iPhone”, and finally make a conclusion, whose smartphones are better and why.

Choosing the best smartphone: Xiaomi or iPhone.

Is it possible to compare them

But we should start by saying that it would not be entirely correct to compare the two previously announced brands, since their products occupy completely different niches in the user market, especially as regards the price segment. In addition, their smartphones have a different technical stuffing and operating system, which directly complicates any comparative tests. But be that as it may, it’s definitely worth a try. As candidates should be tested "Xiaomi Mi 8" and "iPhone X", and the basis to take the five main criteria, which will be discussed further.

Appearance and screen

Right off the bat, and immediately new difficulties. "Mi 8", in fact, the most cheap copy of the "apple device", which repeats the set of "chips" more eminent competitor. For example, the Chinese gadget without scruples of conscience copied the “fringe”, the frameless screen, the double camera, the back glass panel and even the “Face ID”, which was equipped with the “Explorer Edition” model. Should I blame them for this? The issue is controversial, as modern technological trends dictate a certain quality framework and filling devices.

At first glance it is quite difficult to find the pronounced differences between the “Mi 8” and “iPhone X”, which definitely allows you to add “points” to the piggy bank of a Chinese brand. As for the screen, then there is no clear leader and outsider. Both smartphones are equipped with Super AMOLED-display (which is quite paradoxical, since this development is “Samsung”), only in Mi 8 it has a diagonal of 6.21 inches and a resolution of 2248x1080, and the tenth iPhone has a 5.8-inch and resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels. Despite the fact that the "apple device" offers a slightly better resolution, this difference is too blurred on the practical test to give it some meaning.

Performance

As mentioned above, in the considered devices different operating systems and processors are used, which can affect the response time of applications and the smoothness of animation. As for the technical equipment, it looks like this:

Xiaomi Mi 8iPhone X
CPUQualcomm Snapdragon 845Apple A11 Bionic
Number of Coreseight6
Frequency2800 MHz2490 MHz
Graphics processorAdreno 630Apple GPU
RAM capacity6 GB3 GB
Internal memory64/128/256 GB64/128/256 GB

As can be seen from the above table, technically, the Mi 8 surpasses the more eminent competitor, but practical tests again demonstrate that this difference is minimal.

Camera and shooting quality

For a long time already, Apple gadgets have been recognized as leaders in the quality of shooting, for which many fans are so valuable. But even in this criteria, the smartphone from the “Chinese craftsmen” successfully imposes a fight, and in some tests even surpasses the “iPhone X”. Xiaomi has a dual 20 + 16 megapixel lens with an f / 1.7 aperture and an optical stabilizer, the tenth iPhone 12 + 12 megapixel and an aperture of f / 1.8. Reinforced protective glass, various filters and many other additional components - all this combines both gadgets. As for the front camera, here the leadership (albeit a small one) is held by Xiaomi at the expense of its 20 megapixel lens, which Samsung is responsible for developing. The presence of the function "High Dynamic Range", artificial intelligence and portrait mode allows you to create images of unsurpassed quality.

Autonomy

Xiaomi Mi 8 has a 3300 mAh capacity battery, which ensures the full use of the smartphone's capabilities throughout the day. All tests carried out with this model showed approximately the same result - it is a little more than 8 hours with a significant load, and more than a day with idle time. But the "apple smartphone" has long been unable to offer its users a similar autonomy. A battery with a capacity of 2716 mAh lasts approximately 12 hours of inactive use, which is an order of magnitude lower than that of the aforementioned competitor. In addition, “Quick Charge 4.0” technology is integrated into “Mi 8”, which, again, cannot boast of an Apple device. In fairness, it should be noted that both gadgets support wireless charging, and in both cases, the joy of use, it does not deliver.

Cost of

Perhaps only in this criterion there is a clear leader, and as it is not difficult to guess, this is not an iPhone at all. Of course, with the opinion that you need to significantly overpay for quality and a proven brand, especially when it comes to complex devices, you can partly agree. But Apple products have always been criticized, sometimes even by fans with years of experience, and the latest iPhone X model, for which the price tag significantly exceeded $ 1000, from the first days of the announcement caused a lot of negative emotions from outside users and potential buyers. The cost difference is simply colossal - the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition 8/128 GB Smartphone (top of the range) costs around 50, 000 rubles, and the basic package mentioned above is available on average for 25, 000 rubles. And “Apple iPhone X 256GB” has an average price tag of more than 70, 000 rubles, and for 64 GB the cost is only slightly lower than 64, 000 rubles.

Conclusion

So, taking into account all of the above, it is fair to note that the question of whose smartphones are better remains in limbo. On the one hand, the brand, which for ten years has been the trendsetter in the category of electronic devices in question, whose products are among the best in the market. To argue with this is pointless. On the other hand, budget devices from Chinese craftsmen with a less stable operating system (but still the most popular in the world), but with similar technical indicators and significantly lower cost. The conclusion can be made only one. If you are a fan of “Apple”, then you should definitely pay attention to the flagship among smartphones, but if you do not have clear brand preferences, then “Xiaomi” can really be a discovery for you!
