Installing drivers on a computer from a flash drive

Along with the widespread use of personal computers and laptops, predictably, many dummies have appeared, especially when reinstalling the operating system. One of these problems is the critical shortage of drivers on important devices. Many novice users do not even think that after reinstalling the operating system, they simply will not be able to go online to download the right driver. Therefore, in this article we will understand how to install drivers on a laptop or computer from a flash drive.

Using a flash drive when installing drivers simplifies system setup.

A bit of theory

The most common problem, as already mentioned, is the lack of drivers on devices that provide Internet access. If you can find drivers for other devices on the network, then you can’t do anything, you need to have the necessary software on a flash drive or download it to another computer and from there transfer data to the “patient”.

To avoid such situations, a competent user always has a set of specific drivers specifically for his car. This greatly facilitates the life and initial setup of the computer after reinstalling the operating system. According to the law of meanness, the majority of users do not have such a set, so we will first understand how to do without it, and then assemble it bit by bit so that next time we can handle the installation in ten minutes.

There are a lot of ways to supply drivers, but only the manufacturer’s website can be considered really correct and “honest” source of software. Only in this way and no more.

ATTENTION. Downloading it is not clear that it is not clear where, you can screw up the system once or twice.

In any case, we will analyze all the methods, and then you yourself decide what is convenient and correct for you.

Method one, for the lazy

DriverPack Solution, where do without it. This is a collection of the most common drivers. All drivers. The newer the version, the more new drivers are present. The collection is very heavy. At the time of this writing, the full compilation weighs about ten gigabytes, although there is a version with a bootloader, which determines which drivers are missing, and downloads only them.

This option is suitable if you still have access to the Internet on a fresh machine. After starting the program, the evaluation and installation of all the drivers that seem necessary to the program takes place, this is its main disadvantage. Not all drivers are installed, the necessary drivers are not always installed. Therefore, this method can be considered as a spare when there is no normal up-to-date software that exactly fits your devices.

So, what we need to do to use the program:

  • If we do not have access to the Internet. Download the version with all available drivers, throw on the USB flash drive and run the program on the patient. There is an installation, after which we bring to the mind the provision for devices that the program missed.
  • If we have access to the network. We take the boot file and the program downloads only the necessary drivers, after which it puts them. A better option.

After the actions of the program, there are often problems with installing drivers, some devices are displayed as unknown, which makes it very difficult to find the necessary software.

Method two, correct

Correct installation of drivers from a flash drive. Before reinstalling the system, we determine which drivers we need to install in order to access the Internet. The choice of device depends on how you connect to the Internet: via Wi-Fi, PPoE, 3G modem or ADSL. After reinstalling Windows, install the software, which will allow us to go online, and then download the software for each device that needs it, after which we copy the entire assembly to a separate carrier and store it until the next demolition of Windows.

So, actually, how to search for drivers? We have two options: go to the manufacturer’s website and download everything you need specifically for our car model or download software for each specific device by its ID. If everything is clear with the first method, then many may not have heard about the second one, let's understand.

We need to get into the Device Manager. It is done this way: right-click on "My Computer" and select the item "Properties". In the window that appears, pay attention to the left column, where we find the item "Device Manager". Another window will open, where all devices currently connected to our system will be displayed. Devices that need software will be labeled with an exclamation mark; these are the devices we will work with.

Click the right mouse button on any of them and select the item "Properties". Next, go to the "Details" tab and in the drop-down list we find the line "Equipment ID". In the information field there will be a few lines with incomprehensible squiggles, we need them.

Take one of the IDs, we will look for a driver by it. We have two options: go to a specialized website or type a query directly in a search engine. Choose what suits you best. At the time of this writing, the Devid.info site provides services for finding the right driver. Inside the site we drive our ID into the search box, we perform a search. In the obtained results, click on the "Save" button next to one of the drivers, a new window will open where we need to find a line with a direct link to the archive download. Do not click on the huge “Download” buttons, these are advertising banners.

After we have downloaded the archive, or unpack it and run the executive file, or use the update drivers in the device manager. It is performed through the context menu, right-click on any device and select the item “Update drivers”, perform a search on this computer, specify the path to our archive. This method sometimes fails, then you should start the installation manually by unpacking the archive yourself.

The third way, the means of Windows

A large number of software is stored in Microsoft databases, it is a sin not to use them. We will enable auto update for all devices. Especially often this method helps when setting up printers and other office devices.

Go to the "Devices and Printers", right-click on any of the groups and select the item "Device Installation Settings." In the windows that appear, we allow Windows to automatically search for and install drivers and updates.

With the Vind update disabled, this function will not appear. Immediately after enabling auto-updates, a specific icon is likely to appear in the tray, clicking on which you can track the success of the search and installation of the driver. In some cases, the driver will be found and installed. But it is not recommended to use this method as the main one.

Conclusion

So, we figured out how to install drivers from a flash drive on a computer or laptop. In fact, a flash drive is only a tool for storing your personal assembly for a particular machine. All training should be done before you remain without the Internet, remember this. We have to download everything you need on the carrier, and then use it. Alternatively, you can store the necessary drivers on a disk partition that you will not format. Then the external drive is not useful. Be careful, download only pure software, preferably from the manufacturer's website.
