Why do I need DNS

The DNS server can be the cause of many problems with the Internet and sites. If the majority of users already know and understand what a computer’s IP address is (at least approximately), then everything is somewhat more complicated with a DNS address, because for many it is something completely incomprehensible, unknown. In fact, everything is just as simple here. In this article we will take a closer look at what DNS is and how to recognize it. Let's figure it out. Go!

Connect to the DNS server

DNS abbreviation means Domain Name System or domain name system - in Russian. In essence, this is a global repository of keys and values. Each server in any part of the world will provide the necessary value for the corresponding key. If the server does not know a specific key, it will request it from another. In other words, the IP address is requested by the host name.

The domain name system plays a huge role in the work of the Internet. To connect to the site, you need information about the IP address. For any person to remember the name is much easier than a sequence of numbers. Imagine that every time you need to go to a website, you entered its IP address. By the way, this is how it all happened at the dawn of the Internet technology, when it was just beginning to spread.

Domain Name System has a hierarchy of servers that corresponds to the hierarchy of zones. Each of them is supported by the so-called authoritative DNS server, which contains all the information about the domain. It should be understood that the IP address and name are not the same thing, since IP can have an unlimited number of names, which, in turn, allows the user to view an unlimited number of sites on one device. This principle also works in the opposite direction.

If you want to know the DNS of your computer, there are several ways to do this. The first is the fastest and easiest. First, open the command line (to do this, use the key combination Win + R and type cmd in the input field, then click on the “OK” button), and then execute the ipconfig / all command. So you get the necessary network information as quickly as possible.

Ipconfig / all command

The second option is through the Windows interface. Open Control Panel. Select the "Network Connections" section. In the window that appears, right-click on the active connection and click "Properties". Then you need to click the "Properties" button again. After that, a window will appear with information about IP and DNS addresses.
