Choosing the best version of Windows

Windows is today the most popular family of operating systems in the world. It has several dozens of operating systems, among which several are actively used today. Therefore, a novice user may want to know: which version of Windows is better and which one to choose and install?

It is difficult to answer it, since any Windows (XP up to 10) has its pros and cons. We will try to disassemble the various versions as objectively as possible, to understand which Windows is best for your computer.

Windows 7

Determining your OS

How do I know which Windows I have? Enter the “system information” in the search, click on the displayed link, look at the information in the window that opens. So, with a question, what OS at me, we have understood. It remains to find out which Windows to choose.

Windows 7

"Seven" quickly overshadowed XP. And for good reason, because today it is the most popular OS. It finally got everything that the previous OS lacked: automatic driver updates, decent built-in antivirus, good compatibility with wireless networks that had already started in 2009 — the year of release — actively distributed, beautiful appearance, and much another.

It is perfect for work and entertainment, for many, it may be the ideal option. It remains only to choose the version.

Starter

Windows starter

The initial version, which has a bunch of shortcomings compared to the others:

  • it exists only in 32-bit format;
  • there is no possibility to play or create DVDs, which is also very inconvenient;
  • It lacks the effects of Aero - the main graphic chip of the seven

For weak netbooks, old computers will go down with a bang, because it will work flawlessly. But there is no big point, because XP offers a lot more features, hardly anyone will want to install it.

Home

There are two versions of Home: Home Basic (Home Basic) and Home Premium (Home premium). The possibilities of the first one hardly differ from Starter, but the Premium version already offers much greater possibilities. With it, you can experience all the delights of Windows 7: Aero graphic effects appear, tablet PC support, quad-core processors and much more.

Professional

Windows Professional

The professional version has even more expanded potential, allows you to work with a remote desktop, print over the network, work with applications for XP, more precisely, has good compatibility with them, which cannot be said about previous versions.

Ultimate

Ultimate

Windows 7 Ultimate provides all the features of this OS. In addition to the functions described above, it has:

  • BitLocker data protection;
  • Unix application support;
  • boot from virtual hard drives;

Plus, a number of features that will be useful more to the professional than the average user.

Versions Home Premium and Professional are perfect for solving basic tasks. If you now have the "Seven", then you can find out the version by the method described above.

Windows 8 and 8.1

Windows 8.1

"Eight" is easy to recognize on the "tiled" interface, which is very different from the traditional for Windows. The “Start” button was removed, the “Active Angle” came to replace it, which opens a screen with icons of various applications of different sizes.

Ideally, this system is suitable for tablet PCs and laptops and netbooks with touch screens, however, the computer's performance here will require more than working without brakes of the same “Seven”. At the same time, Windows 10 is also supported by many platforms. In Windows 8, Microsoft went the way of multiplatform, and this is a plus and a minus at the same time.

It is extremely convenient to use touch screens for the Metro-interface, but it will be a little awkward for those who are accustomed to standard controls, at least in the beginning. Dependence on the Internet for optimal performance ensures the timely update of everything: applications, news, tapes - high costs in the case of some Internet tariffs. The application store, made on the principle similar to other systems, facilitates the use of official programs, but makes it difficult to use unlicensed software that you like to download on Windows.

Windows 10

And finally, the newest, the best, which for many will finally remove all doubts. Windows 10 came out in 2015 and quickly began to conquer the market. This platform absorbed the best features of the "Seven" and "Eight" and gave as a result a certain synthesis. The developers took into account many of the shortcomings of the previous systems and did what would meet the wishes of the majority of users.

Windows 10

Visualization

Compromise, worthy of applause. The Start menu was returned, but now its size and content are determined independently. You can decide for yourself whether you need a bunch of icons or whether you should limit yourself to the standard view. The visual design has become even more beautiful than 7, but uses some of the features of Windows 8.

Platforms

Windows 10 can be used on a large number of devices: tablets, smartphones, laptops, netbooks, desktops. This allows you to synchronize data on multiple devices at once. There are already models of tablets and smartphones that allow you to effectively use this OS.

Functionality

Windows 10 is great for games that work on it much better than on previous systems. Working on Windows 10 is also much more convenient, since it is the newest, all the programs are perfectly compatible with it.

Windows 10 works fine on different PCs, regardless of their operating memory. In this case, the system load, exit from sleep mode are performed much faster than on older versions.

So which Windows is better? The answer is obvious: Windows 10. 7 and 8 have certain minor advantages, but they all pale before the new “Ten”. If you have already managed to install it for free, then you are very lucky. Unfortunately, now it can be done only for a fee. There are users who remain supporters of the "Seven". In some cases: old PCs, favorite interface - this can be justified. But the future is definitely behind Windows 10.
