How to flash and configure the modem TP-Link TD-W8961ND

TP-Link Model TD W8961ND combines as many as three devices: an access point, a high-quality router and an ADSL modem. The device is designed for networking in the premises. Using the router, in the same room you can go to the Internet from different devices, while receiving excellent speed. Quick setup

All manipulations are performed through the menu in the browser. To get into it, we advise you to enter in the line - 192.168.1.1. Information for authorization on new devices is always the same - admin / admin. Once on the TP-Link TD-W8961ND interface, you can proceed to setting up the Internet.

Click on the Quick Start item and run the setup wizard. The system will offer to perform four stages, after which you will have access to the network:

  1. Select a time zone.
  2. Connection type - PPPoE / PPPoA.

  1. Fill in the login / pass fields (issued by the provider and specified in the contract), and also correctly enter the VCI, VPI data. Note that for Rostelecom, these values ​​are different for each city. It is advisable to clarify this information with technical support. The next quick setup step is the Wi-Fi configuration.

Now you should enter the name of the future network (SSID), select the checkbox “Yes” in the field “Broadcast SSID”.

The access point must be secured to prevent unauthorized use. Select TKIP / AES as the main type of encryption and create a password in the “Key” line.

TP-Link TD-W8961ND for Rostelecom is now configured to work. Save the changes and reboot the device.

PPPoE setting

To configure the router for Rostelecom yourself, you must select the Internet item in the Interface Setup section of the interface. Required fields here are VPI / VCI, Virtual Circuit, Encapsulation (PPPoA / PPPoE), as well as Password and Username. As for the remaining items, we recommend leaving them by default. Wi-Fi setup

For this model of the device, the wireless mode is configured in the Wireless section of the Interface Setup section. To make the device an access point, fill in the fields as follows:

  • Access Point - Activate.
  • Broadcast SSID - Yes.
  • WDS settings - off.
  • SSID - create a network name.
  • Authentication type is WPA2-PSK.
  • Key - think up a password.
  • Filter by MAC address - disable.

Firmware

TP-LINK regularly releases its software updates. To make the device work as efficiently as possible, we recommend flashing it. This can be done by selecting the Firmware item in the Maintance interface section. Prior to this, it is recommended to download the latest version of the firmware on the developer's site.

The downloaded archive should be unpacked in a convenient place on the PC, then open the necessary tab in the interface and record the path to the firmware file. By pressing the Upgrade key, you start the upgrade process, which usually takes 2-3 minutes. After the firmware, the modem will reboot, which will indicate the success of the procedure.
