How to disconnect from outsider wi-fi

Virtually in any public place and in every home, Wi-Fi is now operating. Using wireless Internet, there is always the possibility to connect to the network from almost any place. It is very convenient, because you can work, watch movies, download useful information and be always in touch using various devices. But there are situations when other devices are connected to the Internet for which you pay. As a result, the quality of communication deteriorates. And you think about how to find out who uses your Wi-Fi and how to disable a third-party user.

None of the users want to share their network with other clients.

How to determine that someone is using your network? You should be wary if at least one of these signs is present:

  1. The indicator flashes continuously. This means that information is being transmitted. It is worth paying attention if the indicator flickers at a time when all your devices are turned off.
  2. The data exchange rate has decreased. There are several reasons for the reduction in speed. One of them is the connection of a foreign device.

Ways to determine who is connected to your internet

There are two most convenient ways to identify an unwanted user.

In the settings of the router. Disconnect all your devices from the wireless Internet, except the computer. Find out the IP address and MAC address of the computer. This can be done via the command line using the ipconfig command. The address of the router will be indicated opposite the item “Main gateway”. Often it is written on the label of the device, the login and password by default are also indicated there. Then go to the settings of the router, enter the address of the device in the address bar of the browser, then enter your data. You will see the MAC addresses and IP addresses of all connected devices, if you go to the "Clients" and "Statistics" sections.

How to view router clients:

  1. TP-Link. On the left in the menu, select the section "Wireless Statistics". Here you can see the list of connected devices. Through MAC Filtering, you can disable an unwanted user.

  1. Asus. On the main page the circle "Clients" is displayed. Click on it. The table on the right displays all the clients.

  1. D-Link. Go to the “Advanced Settings”, then select “Station list” in the Wi-Fi item. There is also an opportunity to disconnect the connection with an outside MAC address by clicking "Disconnect".
  1. Zyxel. Select the "System Monitor" section, go to the "Home Network" tab, at the bottom you can see the list of devices.

With the help of the program. In order to determine who is connected to your Wi-Fi, there is a very handy utility Wireless Network Watcher. You can download it from the official site. Run the program directly from the computer that is connected to the router via cable. The utility scans the network, identifying the connected devices. As a result of the scan, their data will be displayed, the name of the manufacturer. After identifying unscrupulous users, they can be disabled through the settings of the router.

How to block someone else's MAC address

If you see foreign devices, you can block them by filtering MAC addresses. Allowing connection to only some addresses is a safer option, while for others it is necessary to ban.

For security reasons, it is recommended to set a password for Wi-Fi. This will limit access to other users and maintain speed at a high level.

Password need to pick up quite complicated. The longer it is, the harder it is to pick it up. Use a combination of large and small letters, numbers, signs. Then the password will ensure sufficient security of your Wi-Fi router, and you will be able to use the full potential of the Internet.
