Connecting the computer to the TV via cable

Each of us at least once thought about connecting a computer and a television together, displaying an image from a monitor on a large screen using HDMI technology or a router. This is not so difficult to do, there are many ways to connect: using cables of several formats - HDMI, DVI or VGA, through the connection to the Internet using a network connection.

Wired connection provides the best signal transfer between devices

We will focus on each of them and find out how to adjust the picture when putting it on the TV.

Cable connection

There are several connectors through which the PC and TV are connected. DVI and HDMI cables transmit a high quality signal, while using VGA format will allow you to get only an analog image.

The subsequent choice of cable depends on which nests are on the equipment - it is important that they match or you can put an adapter on one of its ends.

If your computer does not have a built-in HDMI card or you are going to connect it to your TV using a cable of a different format, you need to purchase a wire for sound transmission, otherwise you will receive only an image. It connects through the audio jack - a circular hole 3.5 mm in diameter and connects the input on the PC sound panel and the connector on the TV or external speakers.

Connection via VGA

This connection format will allow you to see an analog image without sound, which will not be too large a resolution, respectively, of imperfect quality. However, if there are no other connectors, use this method to connect the equipment.

To do this, follow these steps:

  • Turn off the computer, connect the equipment with each other using cables for audio and image;
  • Turn on the TV and select the connection item in the settings (the section can be named Source or Input), stop at the VGA item;

Go to the audio menu and make sure that the settings are set for audio through the cable you connected, and not another interface (for example, HDMI).

  • Turn on the computer - the desktop image should appear instead of the TV.

Video feed via DVI cable

This connection method will allow you to enjoy a digital rather than analog image, but still without sound.

Please note that there are various types of cables in this format, make no mistake when choosing and then purchasing. In general, the installation of the connection between the PC and the TV is the same as in the previous method, only in the settings for receiving the video signal, select the DVI format.

HDMI connection

This way of delivering video and audio to TV is the most relevant and beneficial today, because you will receive a high-quality digital signal with sound - provided that your computer has a built-in HDMI card.

Using this connection, you can display a picture on the screen with a large diagonal without loss of quality, which will especially appeal to lovers of cinema, various games.

When buying an HDMI cable, consider the location of the equipment in the room - if the screen is located on the wall, you cannot simply insert a straight plug. There are various types of cables, where the plug is rotated 90 degrees or angled — it fits well between the back of the TV and the wall.

The connection is done like this:

  • Turn off the equipment from the network, connect it with a cable via HDMI connectors;
  • Turn on the TV, in the connection settings (Source or Input) select the required connection type.

It happens that on the TV one HDMI-port is not enough, and to solve the problem, there are switches - “hubs”, which allow you to attach several devices to it simultaneously.

Image Adjustment

After connecting one of the above methods, you need to adjust the image. Do the following:

  • In the context menu of the desktop (it is turned on with the right mouse button) open the item "Screen Resolution";
  • In the Screen section, the “Multiple monitors” line is selected if you connected the TV and did not disconnect the computer screen.

When setting the resolution, stop at the highest rate for the clearest picture, but keep in mind that the higher the score, the smaller the icons will be.

Work with multiple displays

At the same time you can use multiple monitors as follows:

  • Duplication mode is a complete coincidence of the image on both the PC and the TV - your actions are visible on all monitors connected to the system unit;
  • “Expansion” is a mode for combining two screens so that each of them is independent.

To change the resolution on a separate device, select it through the “Screen” item and make the necessary settings.

Using a network cable

In addition to the above methods, a computer and a TV can be connected to watch a video or photo on a large screen using a Wi-Fi router. This requires the presence of a LAN port on the vehicle and a network cable, after which a special media server is installed.

All this happens like this:

  • Connect the TV to the router with a network cable to the LAN jack and install a media server on it using the following steps;
  • Download a program for translating data from a computer - most users choose the Home Media Server utility;
  • After installing the program, select your TV in its settings menu, then mark the sections on the PC that you would like to view on it;
  • Run the program;
  • Turn on the TV, select the Source section in the parameters, after which a program will appear in the list through which you can view files from your computer.

In a similar way, two devices are connected directly through LAN ports - on the one hand the cable is inserted into the TV socket, the other end is connected to the same port on the back of the system unit, creating a network connection.

Important! To combine the technology using the above two methods, you need to set the DHCP network settings on the TV. If they are not automatically included, you should manually enter the following data:

  • In the operating system: go to the Control Panel, open your network and view its properties - select Internet Protocol 4 and enter the IP address 192.168.0.1, the subnet mask - 255.255.255.0. The DNS server combination matches the IP value;
  • Enter this data in the network settings of the TV.

Wi-Fi connection

Modern TVs have a built-in Wi-Fi module, which will be useful to you in order to connect the device to your PC and display the image on the screen.

To do this, connect to the wireless network through the hardware settings, connect to this network on a personal computer. Now, via the Control Panel, go to the screen menu, enable the search for monitors in the resolution settings window. When the computer detects all the monitors, you can broadcast your desktop on the big screen.

All described methods of connection will allow to transfer the image from the computer screen to the TV. In principle, combining technology with an HDMI cable is one of the most attractive and logical options, since this format of signal transmission will allow you to get a high quality picture with clear sound. But the choice of the optimal method depends on the parameters of the equipment and which of the listed options will be most convenient for you.
