Connecting the joystick to the PlayStation 3 - native and non-native

The task of how to connect the joystick to the PS3 can be divided into 3 subtasks, depending on where you got the gamepad from:

  • You can take the "native" DualShock 3 - and this is the most reasonable option.
  • A contender can be a device from SonyPS3 - DualShock 4, do not count on backward compatibility, the 3rd DualShock on the 4th PS will not work (except in some very simple games), but the DS4 works perfectly with the PS3.
  • It does not interfere with testing any other similar control device, but, as they say, third-party manufacturers - in this situation, the products of the very same Microsoft are the most suitable.

We do not forget, there is also the possibility of connecting the second control unit with our gaming console, this further enhances the level of use of the console, but also makes you break your head over the connection.

We work with the standard version - DualShock 3 to the PlayStation 3

This is the simplest and most natural combination of connections and, of course, the most correct one, although you will have to additionally “go bankrupt” by 3-4 thousand on DS3. So, we connect the PS3 to a normal 220 V network and see for a red indicator that there is a network. And further:

  • The console is already connected to the monitor (or TV).
  • We get the USB cable that comes with the set-top box (transition to miniUSB) and connect the gamepad and the console to each other - of course, we can select any connector on the main product.

We draw attention to the fact that you will play in the future, of course, without physically connecting the gamepad to the console - wireless, but the first connection is made using the cable

Do not forget that the DS3, as peripheral equipment, has a self-contained battery that requires constant recharging, if you are not worried about this in advance, wait 15-20 minutes until the battery returns to normal, do not start connecting, being unsure of reliable rear .

  • Turn on the PlayStation 3.
  • The prefix is loaded and at the final stage proceeds to the recognition of external devices. Since the gamepad is “native”, it is recognized without problems (well, almost like your USB flash drive on a computer) and is immediately included in the work.
  • In the future, the connection of the joystick will already take place without a cable - you simply turn on the PS3 and press the PS button on the gamepad in the middle of the device, it directly looks at you.
  • Notice, the PS button you will use more than once in the future, already during the game; if you press and hold it, you can get a lot of additional useful functions: viewing the battery status, changing the number of the gamepad, turning it off.

Now we are trying to use the PlayStation 4 gamepad.

Well, well, you want to shoot the cannon on the sparrows and revive the PlayStation 3 with the help of the PlayStation 4 gamepad. It is possible, you never know what reasons may arise. And pay attention, the work will be available in any mode - and with the wire, and without a wire.

To make the connection, we again see that the DualShock 4 is fully charged.

In case you need joystick, charge

Do the following:

  1. Launch on PS3 "Bluetooth Device Management".
  2. In the window that opens, click on "Register a new device."
  3. When you click on the button “Start scan”, we search for an external device.
  4. On the device itself, simultaneously press and hold down the two buttons —PS and Share.
  5. When the white indicator on the joystick flashes, the recognition and installation are successful.
  6. At this point, the Wireless Controller message should appear on the screen.

Turn came and any turned up joystick

Well, this is too much a word - "any one who turns up." But, really, there is always a chance to play, especially if the joystick from Microsoft is the right way to choose the connection method (perhaps you are just lucky and you guessed it, since the choice is not great).

As for the method, there are two of them:

  • through the cable;
  • via Bluetooth receiver.

Cable connection is simpler and more reliable.

A wireless connection, and even a “non-native” joystick, often fails; it may not be recognized either by the console or by the computer.

To connect the gamepad from the computer, you need a standard set:

  • the game console itself, of course;
  • control device;
  • USB wire or Bluetooth adapter.

If there is a desire now to use DualShock 3 on a computer, then there will not be enough:

  • without a program that solves the problem, how to configure the joystick control buttons — configure the reaction of each game to all 8 directions of movement;
  • The drivers for the joystick are exactly under the installed system.

So, to connect the "third-party" control peripherals to the PS3 will be according to this algorithm:

  1. From the side of the console, there is nothing unusual - switching on the network and in the monitor, turning on the power and waiting for a full load.
  2. We connect with each other console and joystick using a USB cable.
  3. Turn on the power of the joystick, which must also be charged.
  4. Immediately, the console recognizes a new connected device and initializes it. If the recognition is unsuccessful, then the output is one - the console does not have a driver for this peripheral, “does not know” it and does not allow using it. There is only one nuance that can save - perhaps the failure is due to the fact that you connect the joystick as a second. Then you need to make sure that you put it as a Gamepad 1.

Even if you intend to use this “non-native” joystick without wires in the future, the primary connection is made through the wire. If you still want to connect to wireless, do this:

  1. After switching on the PlayStation 3 to the network, you need to insert a wireless receiver into its USB connector.
  2. As a rule, such a receiver is purchased separately from the joystick.
  3. We supply power to both the console and the joystick.
  4. On the gamepad, we press the same PS button.
  5. The console will attempt to establish communication and recognize peripherals.

It is very easy to understand whether you are lucky or not - try playing your favorite game; if it "breathes", then everything is in order, the device has approached

Now we will try to use DualShock 3 on the computer. The procedure does not differ from the connection of any other peripherals, taking into account even such a normal step - you must first obtain the DS3 driver for the corresponding system on the PC. Further:

  1. We connect between each other DS3 and computer via USB-connector.
  2. We start the DS3 driver, there are several of them, but Motioninjoy has proven to be the best.
  3. Entering the profile management —Profiles.
  4. Set the switch select the only mode - Selectonemode.
  5. Next turn on the joystick.
  6. We are awaiting its activation. If the indicator light on the joystick, it is successfully installed.
  7. Now you need to configure, it is best to use the program xPadder.

If you want to install remotely, you will need a wireless receiver in the USB-connector. Then:

  1. Install the gamepad driver on the computer.
  2. On the PC, in the devices, we find the “Bluetooth-joystick”.
  3. Click on the "Connect" button.

If you need a second joystick

The task, how to connect a gamepad to the PS3, includes connecting a second device. For the second joystick, the actions are as follows:

  1. Initial state: the console is turned on, the second gamepad is charged and also connected and turned on.
  2. Click on the gamepad button PS.
  3. On the screen, select the item "New User".
  4. When choosing a game mode, we are interested in - "As a guest."
  5. If the warning “Enter PSN” appears, then we answer “No”.

Connection is completed, now you have a PS3 attached and a second joystick
