Simple actions to revitalize the PS3 discs; more complex ones are almost impossible.

Indeed, the problem when the PS3 does not read discs, one of the most unpleasant and intractable. The situation is further aggravated by the fact that Sony does not provide spare parts and units for its Playstation. Therefore, in the case of a replacement, you will definitely come across left-handed ones from other disassembled attachments. In any case, do not panic, everything can be much easier than it seems, you can not just enjoy your favorite game, if you show composure and be consistent.

What does the manufacturer offer

If your PS3 does not see the disc, for a start it doesn’t bother to forget the manufacturer’s simple tips:

  • Check which software version you are using and make sure it is the latest. To do this, go to the menu, to the system settings, and under the heading "System Information" we find out the version of your software. If the version does not match the latest version, go to the PlayStation 3 system software page and install the latest version. But this is still a preparatory stage. Next, proceed to the main point:
  • First, we check the quality of the disc itself.

There should be no scratches on the surface of the disc.

Trying to put another disk. If the other reads normally, and there are no visible damages on the first one, neatly, we wipe the entire surface with special napkins for CDs (you shouldn’t aggravate the situation and drive over the disk surface) and try to read again. If even now the reading does not pass, then the matter is in the disk, which you can just throw away.

  • The second is to see if the disc is compatible with games with the drives of the PlayStation 3 system: after all, it can be ridiculous, it’s just not from PS3, and you have been tormented for an hour.
  • Third - try to check if the same discs are being read on another PlayStation system. If they are read, then the matter is in the system that needs to be put in order, and there is only one way, according to Sony, to go to a certified service center.

Trying to do something more serious.

More serious actions are associated with more serious problems than scratching the disc.

The main thing, most likely, over time, the power of the optical head beam "sat down". In fact, the power of the beam gradually and so constantly decreases, but in your case this drop has reached just a critical point. Different speed of fall depends on different operating conditions, it can be said differently - different excitement of the PS3 owner.

But the reading head can simply reduce its efficiency as a result of dust settling on it.

The first conclusion that can be made from this - do not use the console in dusty places

The second is that you should not use low-quality discs, they are also a source of damage to the reading head.

The practice of some services shows that in 6 cases out of 10 the problem is connected with the laser head, in 2 cases with drive mechanics, one more reason may lie in the control board, and once the reason cannot be identified at all.

But the essence of this does not change, the PS3 is not the device into which, solving a problem — the PS3 does not read the disks, what to do — you can climb and think that this will pass with impunity.

Anyway:

  • just replace the drive will not work, because it is linked with a password, cryptographically, with the control electronics;
  • It will not be possible to replace the board for the same reason.

If the optical head really sat down, then it could be bought - the market will offer several options. Only you need to be aware that the head will be burnt, not native to Sony, the company simply does not release its parts (separately, to the market, at least).

You can change the entire drive, again not native to Sony — to do this you will need to remove the board as well, in order to replace the firmware on it. This is a way out of the situation, but only for “non-proprietary”, custom firmware, which are free from the limitations of cryptography.
