Connecting a Sony PlayStation 4 and TVs

When it comes to resolving the issue of how to connect the PS4 to a TV, then one would like to recall Bulgakov - treat it like this. The fact is that the only, by and large, sensible way out of the situation is the purchase (well, or the presence in any case) after the PS4 prefix and the corresponding TV. Old TV sets without an HDMI input connector will no longer fit. New PS4 connection requires new equipment.

Little about connector

Strictly speaking, HDMI, or High Definition Multimedia Interface is a reflection of the current rapidly developing multimedia world and it would be naive to assume that Sony will lag behind this world and enter the Champions League fields with some old stuff.

This connector:

  • with copy protection,
  • high definition signal transmission
  • multichannel,
  • digital.

It was developed in 2002, its first version 1.0 was released on December 9 and could provide a transfer rate of 4.9 Gb / s, also very decent.

But since then, this connector even "jumped" itself. The latest version 2.1, released immediately after the meeting of the New Year 2017, already provides a speed of 10 times greater (48 Gb / s) and even the transmission of sound over 32 channels.

Of course, there are no HDMI 2.1 TVs on the market yet, although you have to wait “from day to day, ” and you never know if it’s too late. But support for version 2.0 (she saw the light of December 4, 2013) is already in full swing. Although more often oriented to HDMI 1.4b. 2.0 already supports wide screens - 21: 9, and 1.4b - began to work with a resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels.

HDMI cable

In other words, everything is done under the coolest newest games, as if on purpose, under Sony PlayStation 4.

We connect to the TV

Thus, if you have a TV with an HDMI input connector, there are almost no connection problems: you will not be mistaken, the connector itself will not allow - it has at least 19 contacts. It is necessary to skillfully just gently connect the devices to each other, like Grandma in satellite TV advertising.

TV with HDMI input connector

Why are there almost no problems? Yes, there is one small snag - unfortunately, the length of the cable from the PS4 could have been longer; And it is not clear why Sony does not supply this cable (it is included in the set of delivery of the set-top box) at least 5 meters long. Just in case, we can say that without loss of transmission quality, these cables can be 10 meters long, there are options up to 25 meters.

The solution of the problem to connect to the old TV will be associated with significant problems. He most likely has an outdated AV connector (also called RCA - Radio Corporation of America, developed with a “beard” of 1940), which means, as usual, in this case, you will have to look for an adapter, connect only through it. He is so famous that he was assigned his everyday name - “Tulip”. The name is beautiful, only it will not save - this connector does not transmit sound, there may be problems with picture quality.

Connecting to computer displays, laptops

Computer displays use a DVI connector, and again we need to talk about the adapter. But you still can not avoid problems with sound, in addition, the quality of the picture will suffer (although after computer games this will be almost imperceptible). The fact is that the DVI standard provides the maximum resolution - 2560 × 1600, which is one and a half times worse than HDMI.

Laptops have an HDMI connector, but it only works on the output.

In other words, we remember Bulgakov and, if $ 500 was enough for the console, you can buy a second-used 32-inch TV for 200–250 with an HDMI connector, then there will be no problems with connecting PlayStation 4.
